Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) received devastating news in recent EastEnders scenes following Rocky Cotton’s (Brian Conley) sentencing.

Rocky found himself in deep water after wracking up some hefty debts last year, with his gambling addiction making everything ten times worse.

With Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) on his back about paying back his loan, Rocky saw no other option than to set Kathy’s beloved café on fire in order to claim on the insurance.

Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out the way he’d hoped when Kathy was arrested for arson, and Rocky was forced to tell police that he had tampered with the electrics, rendering their claim invalid.

After selling the café to Nish, Kathy discovered that Rocky had been the one to start the fire, and promptly ended their marriage.

Things only got worse for Kathy from there, when she got caught up in the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) on Christmas Day.

Kathy and the rest of The Six agreed to cover up the murder, putting all of their futures at risk.

Unfortunately, when sneaking around the Square amid the cover up, they didn’t account for Rocky wandering around drunkenly. They also didn’t expect him to remember what he’d seen.

With Rocky asking increasingly damning questions, the women decided that there was no other option but to report him for the café fire, and so Kathy called the police.

In more recent scenes, she was left devastated when she received a call informing her that Rocky had been sentenced to a ten year prison stretch.

As Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) tried to comfort her, Kathy lashed out, pointing out that Linda was the reason she had had to report Rocky in the first place.

She snapped that Linda should have got rid of the murder weapon sooner, and then they wouldn’t be in the mess they were in now.

She continued to express her frustration that Linda had told Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) everything and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) had told Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) about Denise Fox’s (Diane Parish) attack on Nish, when she had no one left to talk to because her husband was now in prison.Up until now, Kathy has been one of few members of The Six who have managed to hold their nerve, but could Rocky’s sentencing be the thing to push her over the edge?

Things started to go downhill for Kathy when her beloved café was burnt down back in November, and she was subsequently arrested for arson.

Husband Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) fortunately came to her rescue, but when Kathy was forced to sell the caff to Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), the horrible truth came out and she realised that it was Rocky who was behind it all.

Following their breakup, things only got worse when Kathy found herself implicated in Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder, after witnessing Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) stab him and agreeing to help hide the b

However, their plan was put in jeopardy when it became clear that Rocky had witnessed their suspicious movements that night, and began asking questions that could get them all in serious trouble.

In a bid to get him off their case, Kathy made a huge sacrifice in reporting him for the café fire.

Rocky was then arrested and has been in custody ever since.

In upcoming scenes, Sonia Fowler (N

On the day of the sentencing, Sonia and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) treat Kathy to a boozy brunch in a bid to cheer her up, but will it work?

With Rocky’s history, he is anticipating a long stretch behind bars, but will the judge be lenient? And if the worst does happen, will Kathy be able to live with herself for turning him in?

The former BBC soap star wrote: “My first Hollywood Film Audition and I got the part. Thanks to the American Film producers who gave me a chance to advance with my craft. Catch your Boy on the Silver screen this year. I am here because he’s up there.”

Mo’s close pals and fans sent their congratulations, with Hollyoaks actor Richard Blackwood writing: “God’s saying your timing is now! Smash it bro.” One fan gushed: “That’s massive my brother!!! Very very happy for you. Up there in your rightful place!”

Mohammed first appeared on EastEnders 22 years ago now, with his character becoming popular following his love affair with Sonia Fowler, played by Natalie Jackson. But now he will make his screen debut in the forthcoming American drama film Here directed by Robert Zemeckis and penned by Eric Roth and Zemeckis.

It’s based on the graphic novel of the same name by Richard McGuire. The movie features Oscar winner Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Paul Bettany, and Kelly Reilly.

With the usual outrageous drama kicking off in Albert Square, it’s no surprise to EastEnders fans how shocking the latest stories can be when they hit the headlines.

However, it’s never easy when we have to say goodbye to some of our favourite EastEnders characters — and 2023 was a year full of emotional, dramatic and unexpected farewells.

Lola Pearce-Brown (Danielle Harold), Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) and many more all left the soap last year.

We also welcomed back a number of familiar faces to the Square, from Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) to Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

However, as we prepare to say another heartbreaking goodbye to more characters in 2024, let’s take a look at who is returning and the newcomers set to call Walford their home…
