Further turmoil is to hit EastEnders next week as the events of Eddie Knight’s (Christopher Fairbank) trial play out with devastating consequences for his son George (Colin Salmon).

George and estranged adoptive father Eddie’s relationship has become more fractured after learning that he was adopted from West Africa as part of a baby farming agreement in the late 1960s.

Before this, he always assumed he was of Jamaican heritage.

Eddie arrived in Albert Square alongside wife Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell), asking for a character reference after he was charged with a racially motivated murder that took place forty years ago on a man named Henry Asare, who was George’s birth father.

Struggling to deal with the findings, George’s daughter Gina (Francesca Henry) spent 5k on flights to Jamaica, believing it to be his home nation, in a bid to cheer him up and learn more about his culture.

In upcoming scenes, fiancée Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) and ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) urge him to come clean to his daughters about his findings, which horrifies the girls.

As the trial date rolls around, he’s put out to learn that his DNA search to find his birth mother hasn’t proved fruitful but when Eddie tells him he’ll give him the information he craves if he cooperates with the statement in court, he’s left conflicted.

After speaking with Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) about the legal implications involved in making a false statement, he bravely heads to the courtroom but is intrigued by the presence of a mystery woman.

Following the trial, Elaine and Cindy join forces to hunt down an emotionally charged George to tell him that he has a visitor at The Vic that threatens to change his life forever. Is the mystery visitor his mother, and who was the woman in the courtroom?

EastEnders will air a huge twist next week, as everything changes for George Knight.

George has just learned that his father Eddie Knight was responsible for the death of his biological father. He had assumed he was of Jamaican descent but as the truth came out about what really happened to George’s biological parents and the fact they were actually from Ghana and not Jamaica as he thought, it has left a huge hole in everything he thought was true.

Next week on the BBC soap, George is clearly struggling to cope and when the DNA tests come back to say no matches have been found, he is crestfallen about the fact that there is no trace of his birth family. Elaine and Cindy implore him to tell the kids the truth about their heritage, which he reluctantly does and they are horrified to learn the truth about what Eddie has done.

Gloria calls the pub, begging George to give Eddie a good character witness, so he heads over to speak to them and warns them never to make contact with him or see him again. Eddie tells George that he’s got some information about his birth mother, but says he will only give it to him if George gives him a character witness in court tomorrow.

The next day, Elaine asks Johnny to talk George through the legal implications of giving such a statement but he’s still unsure what to do. After a heart to heart with Linda, he goes to court and makes a decision based on his gut. What will he do?

A mysterious woman arrives at the court, leaving Gloria distracted, but who is she? George takes to the stand, but what does he say, and is it good or bad news for Eddie? Elsewhere, Elaine remains worried for George following the trial and urges him to calm down for the sake of his kids. However, they are interrupted by an arrival at The Vic, which changes everything, but who is it?

Colin Salmon – who plays George – explained how his character feels he has “no choice”.

“George now feels he has no choice because all other avenues are closed, and Eddie has this nugget of information to share. I like to think of George and Eddie as always in the boxing ring, testing each other out. Eddie knows George’s buttons, so he’s making a play in doing this. It’s a brilliant war strategy that leaves George with no choice,” he said.

EastEnders‘ George Knight will meet a mystery new character next week, as Eddie stands trial for murder.

George’s life changed forever last month, when he discovered that Eddie had murdered his biological father.

Prior to this, George had learned that Eddie was standing trial for a racially-aggravated murder and wanted George to give a character witness in court.
