EastEnders fans have been left baffled by Whitney Dean’s ‘final scenes’ on the BBC soap.

Whitney – who is played by Shona McGarty – will be leaving Walford for good as Shona departs her role soon, but fans are convinced they’ve watched her final scenes tonight as Zack Hudson made a big decision. Whitney and Zack have been living with Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) in Milton Keynes but Zack is now itching to get back to Walford and earn some money ahead of the baby’s arrival.

Tonight, Whitney was able to go home after being rushed to hospital when she was hit by a car trying to save teenager Britney. She has been adamant she wants to look after Britney but Zack wanted her to focus on their daughter.

Fans are now convinced the scenes we saw tonight might be Whitney’s final scenes on the BBC soap and have been left confused. One fan wrote: “So is that Whitney’s final episode then because I thought this whole two part special thing was about her exit and whilst I can see where it’s going how long is it gonna be before we get anywhere with it.”

“So Whitney basically got hit by a car for dramatic effect? Or to prove that she won’t put this baby first? Or to cause an argument between her and Zack? I’d be well annoyed at Whitney in the end for not telling Zack instantly she knew it was a girl. Why keep that to yourself for the majority of the day?” a second fan wrote on Reddit, whilst a third shared: “The rift between Whitney and Zack feels really forced and unnatural. I guess that’s what happens when you try to condense 5 weeks into 2 episodes.”

Shona previously confessed she found it a tough decision to leave the soap.

“It wasn’t an easy decision because I’ve made so many friends. I’ve seen people come and go, and meanwhile, Whitney has been one of the longest-standing characters. I’ve had so much fun and done so many storylines, some of which have been sensitive, and I’ve been honoured to be trusted with such heavy stuff year after year. So I’m going to be sad to say goodbye to my friends and family, but it was the right decision for me as I want to do other things. After 15 years, I’ve had a pretty good run!” she said.

‘One of the things that becomes clear is how important George’s relationship with Cindy is to him. I think it can get confused with romance, but actually, it’s Cindy’s knowledge of him, Gloria and Eddie that matters.

‘George’s world suddenly becomes very small, and Cindy becomes very important spiritually. She has the ability to talk him down because she understands him better than anyone does right now.’

In upcoming scenes, both Elaine and Cindy are set to join forces in an attempt to calm George down after taking the stand in court for Eddie’s trial.

It comes after a tough week, which sees George discover that there his DNA tests have found no matches, meaning there is no trace of his birth family.

‘George is in a desert of knowledge, and he was hoping to find some connections,’ Colin explained. ‘Suddenly, he’s got West African roots, but he doesn’t know anything about his heritage.

‘I quite like that he’s totally oblivious about this and has to look it up. I also like that George knows what he doesn’t know and is prepared to find out but not getting any DNA result matches leaves him with a massive hole because he hoped to find something.’

Colin went on to reveal that it is ‘crucial’ for George to find his biological family, following the revelation that his father had come looking for him.

‘It’s crucial because now George knows that his birth father came back for him, and that changes things. Now, he realises that his parents wanted him back, and they were always his people.
